The Bay in February. There's something about the rawness, the cold, and the empty beaches that makes Cape Cod beautiful in the winter.

A few weeks back a reporter and photog from The Record interviewed us about the book. It was fun; we met in a coffee shop, sipped espresso, swapped stories about rip-offs, and had our pics taken. It's strange to be talking publicly about this project that only a few short months ago composed of sketches, a notebook of interviews, and a couple hundred pages of pixellated thoughts on a Word doc. As it turns out the story was published last Wednesday in the paper's business section. I didn't see it until this weekend when a neighbor brought over a copy. We also have a press release out there, and take-no-prisoners blogs, like Chris Worth, have been giving the book a thumbs-up.

A lot of people have asked how we had time to get a project like this done. All I can say is, if you have anything rattling around in your head that you've always wanted to do:
writing, painting, a side business, a new career, by all means make it a goal, give it a deadline and cover some ground. Clear yourself 15 minutes a day, early morning, lunchtime, late night...whatever it takes...and crank it out. Seek advice guardedly, as most people will tell you why you shouldn't do something. Naturally, even the best laid plans have been known to fail (our book could go bust) thus proving your critics right, but at least you'll have tried. At least you will have jumped into the arena and have a bloodied nose to be proud of.

Just my Monday morning stream-of-consciousness-for-what-it's-worth-2 cents.

About this time last year we were having a fantastic time down in Key West. We can't make it to the Keys this year because we're hitting the mouse house instead. But other family members are down there and I heard--that of all people--my mom and aunt Ronnie went parasailing over the weekend. Further proof that the place always manages to bring out the wild side.

My wrist appears to be fully recovered. Last night I made it through a workout session that included take-downs, throws, and arm-locks. It's "self-defense week," my favorite time of the month. That is, except for "weapons week," I like that one, too.

I saw my first concert at the Worcester Centrum in 1986, and so did the new editor at Billboard. He saw Dave and I saw VH (with Sam). Congrats on the new gig, Chris, you have a good taste in music.

"it is hilarious (and maddening.) it's IDEAL for bathroom reading. ;)" The web-innovating and boundary-pushing John Halcyon Styn blogged about our book (not entirely work safe).

I like Johnny Rockets. They unashamedly serve up juicy double rocket burgers, vanilla shakes, and crunchy onion rings with nary a politically correct care in the world. Elvis is never more than a couple of songs away on the jukebox and they're called American fries thank you very much. You gotta support these last bastions of Americana whenever you can.

It was 1998, I was working for JP Morgan on Fifth avenue. While taking a walk at lunchtime I ran into Al Lewis campaigning for mayor. He sported a ponytail and had a table set up with his Green party banner and was calling for the repeal of drug laws. We exchanged pleasantries and he asked me to vote for him. But I really wasn't interested in his politics, but I thought that is was great that was out there getting involved albeit in his own wacky way. As a kid I always watched The Munsters reruns whenever I stayed home sick. What a good show that was. I wonder if Grandpa will be buried with his cape?
