A few good books. We're a quarter of the way through 2006 and I've managed to pry out enough time to catch up on some reading (one of the benefits of a long train commute). The River of Doubt : Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey was an interesting look at my favorite president. The New Psycho-Cybernetics demonstrated how "visualization" can be a powerful tool for success, and John Hogan's Turnpike Trooper was an intriguing read about a controversial shooting and the political aftermath.

Bone dust in our lungs. Downtown at Starbucks the oblivious line up for lattes even as remains are still being found. { 12:45 PM }

I've been friends with Doug (center with glasses) since our days in high school and college so I was glad to be a part of his bachelor party down in Atlantic City last weekend. We stayed at the Tropicana, enjoyed dinner at Carmine's, and had a sophisticated, classy time like gentlemen do (most of us, anyway). Since he waited so long to decide to get married, Doug's got quite a wide-ranging group of friends. There were at least 30 of us, and over the infamous 48 hours the crew could be found everywhere from Ri-Ra's to the blackjack tables, to Red Square to points unknown. Congrats, bud! You did it right. Indeed, Sammy would be proud!

Sign of the Times
Saw a fellow walking down the street in NYC with a t-shirt that read, Medicated for your safety. I suppose that's more comforting than another one I saw, Don't make me mad 'cause I'm running out of places to hide the bodies.

Here's a pic of my mom and Aunt Ronnie (my godmother) parasailing in Key West. It looks scary, but they did it anyway. I'm still trying to work up the nerve. I prefer being deep beneath the surface than soaring high above it. But it's looking like I might be in Key West next year so I may have to face my acrophobic demons and give it a try. Key West is the place to do things you ordinarily might not do, and parasailing is one thrill that's less permanent than a tattoo, unless of course the harness breaks. { 8:17 AM }

Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.

I'd better start crackin' on that "to-do" list. { 12:02 PM }
