Spent the holiday weekend with family up in Cape Cod. Beat the traffic by leaving late at night on Thursday and busting out at 6 am on Memorial Day. Got a chance to hit the beach for two beautiful days and enjoyed clam chowder, steamers, and Wellfleet oysters on the half shell. I also hit Coast Guard Beach with my cousin for some java-fueled sunrise striper fishin'.

Congrats to the kid who bagged the 1,000 pound-plus monster Hog with a revolver. Well, there is some debate as to the authenticity of the photo, but the story has a larger message, beyond that of the size of the wild pig. Hidden beneath the politically correct-polished exterior of your average 11-year old lurks a Huck Finn or Jim Hawkins looking for action, adventure, and excitement beyond "play dates" and PlayStation. It's Campbell's Heroes Journey. It's innate. It's slaying the beast, besting grown-ups, returning with the prize and getting the accolades. Hopefully some aspect of the tale is true, and the kid scored a victory for over-protected and over-scheduled kids everywhere.

Well, since it looks like males won't be needed in the future; the planet will be ruled by women, and they're going to have to duke it out for world dominance. Without men, though, who will shell out for the Pay-Per-View?

It's being called a microburst, but whatever it was it came out of nowhere and gave us a good smack. My friend John told me it was coming, and I could actually see the storm racing toward Manhattan from Jersey. The sky darkened ominously and white caps kicked up on the Hudson. Wind whipped down Broadway followed by a lash of rain. At home in the Jersey suburbs power lines were down, trees ripped out of the ground or in some cases weirdly sheared off at the top. Meanwhile vans from Eyewitness News and Fox prowled the streets. This morning I awoke to the incessant thumping of a stationary government or news helicopter surveying the damage from its perch in the sky.

"G-g-g-get them Dukes!" The Dukes of Hazzard, what great TV that was. Kids watching those weekly televised exploits wished they could be Bo, Luke, or Daisy outwitting--and out-driving-- Roscoe P. Coltrane and putting one over on Boss Hogg. And that car! Why use doors when you could climb in through the windows? Logic every kid understood. And we loved how the mud-splattered General Lee tore through twisting back roads and made those spectacular jumps over ponds (replayed in slo-mo to be sure you didn't miss any of the action).

Well the "General Lee" eBay hoax is in the news showing up everywhere from the San Francisco Chronicle to Forbes. I'm quoted at the end of the story, which is always fun, and the reference has been driving traffic to our site.

So I lost my phone on the way into work. Since I have a 15 minute walk through World Financial Center to my office, the phone could have been anywhere. I was imagining someone using it to call Hong Kong or Istanbul and was thinking of the hassle involved with having Verizon kill the phone, issue a new one, and program the thing.

When I got to my office I called my number and a guy answered. He'd found my phone, and he was nearby. So I met him near Ground Zero and it turns out he's an off-duty JCPD motorcycle officer in town for a charity ride. My grandfather was also a JCPD motorcycle lawman back in the first half of the 20th century, so maybe the universe took care of things. I thanked the man and phone in hand I was on my way back to work. The whole situation was resolved within a half hour. The City is a funny place.
