You just never know who's lurking in the woods! It was a fun, adrenaline-fueled day. Next stop, N.Y. Steakhouse!

Our intrepid bachelor demonstrates what these paintballs can do to unprotected skin. Ouch!

My protective mask resulted in a head shot being little more than a paint-splattered mess...

Cover is key. Without it you're facing a barrage of zinging pellets.

Here we are getting suited up.

Last weekend I joined a dozen other guys for a bachelor party for my cousin. Destination, NJ Paintball. I last played back in the 80's in Jim Thorpe, PA, back when a pair of goggles and a manually cocking paint pistol was the norm. But technology has improved. The new markers are semi-auto, hold a hundred pellets in a hopper, and deliver a nasty sting upon impact. One learns quickly to avoid getting hit.

There's a lot of local color to be seen on a typical lunchtime stroll. These sunglass-sporting Lady Liberty mimes are plying their trade down by Battery Park.

The scene outside our office on Thursday around 5:00 pm. There was some sort of confrontation that resulted in shots being fired. Broadway was shut down south of Wall Street and police swarmed the scene while helicopters hovered overhead. Yellow "crime scene" tape stretched across Broadway and pedestrian traffic diverted. Oddly, there was no mention of the event on the evening news.

Perfect day to hit the lake....

There are still lots of interesting things to be found in the world. Like this beast on a beach or this hapless little fellow in the snow.

Today as I was walking down Broadway an unusual cyclist passed me. He was astride a gold-painted chopper bicycle with gold handlebar tassles, and wearing a gold suit with matching golden top hat and sunglasses. Even his shoes and socks were gold. He's that into his thing.

Apparently he's another colorful addition to the downtown usual suspects, which also include "Birdman," a fellow with a plumage-adorned hat who walks around mimicking the call of the crow. "Caw-caw-caw!" He can be heard screeching, sounding exactly like the real thing. Clearly he's practiced his craft.

There are also the "statue people," artists dressed as the Statue of Liberty who have become adept at standing perfectly motionless and attracting throngs of tourists craning to catch a possible movement, thus "outing" the "statue." They can be heard saying, "A-ha! I saw him move! See, he just blinked!" Stuff like this goes on all day around here.

There's a great little Mexican restaurant around the corner. Here's their takeout "Combo Burrito." Chicken, beef, veggies, cheese, rice and black beans. And slathered with lots of jalepeno sauce.
