Merry Christmas from Cape Cod! This is the first Christmas I have spent outside of New Jersey. And what a fine time to be up here. A week of indoor festivities and outdoor adventures. Despite the salty air, there is some remaining snow on the ground and it contrasts nicely with the sand (a juxtaposition rarely seen by the summer tourist crowd).

I knew I could not escape all those poor sneezing and coughing wretches on the train. Despite a regimen that includes exercise, healthy eating, and regular hand washing, a bug got me. Nyquil and Sudafed helped to a degree, but the old adage about chicken soup being the best remedy rings true. Especially when you doctor it up a bit. I made a pot of soup with chopped up chicken (grilled in garlic and olive oil) with some noodles and diced celery, onion, garlic and carrots, a dash of white wine and splotch of lemon; all tossed in a broth. I added a lot of black pepper, dill, cilantro and other spices. Finally, a nice healthy dose of hot sauce, not the wimpy jalapeno stuff mind you, but a bottle of the mighty habanero! The fiery concoction worked wonders, providing warm sustenance with a sinus-clearing kick that knocked me out of my foggy stupor. I've almost used up my new bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce testing out this homemade restorative. I've even taken some of it to work today in my trusty stainless Thermos.

This pilot weird illusions story reminds me of that old Twilight Zone episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet where a salesman on an airliner, played by William Shatner, sees a Gremlin sabotaging the aircraft's engine. The strange things reported by the pilots appear similar to some of the dangers faced by divers in the rapture of the deep, where "up" is perceived as "down" and divers believe they can remove their regulators and "breathe" water. Fortunately, I've yet to experience this strange phenomenon. { 2:50 PM }
