Happy St. Patrick's Day! My Irish grandfather was born on this day in 1893.

Even though I'm in NYC, I won't be making it over to the parade. But I will get home to enjoy the traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner. Queued up are The Irish Rovers, Loreena McKennitt, and some Riverdance to set the mood. I will also help put the finishing touches on the annual family leprechaun trap. You ask why? First of all, if you catch one, he is compelled to tell you where he hid his pot of gold. So it's the opportunity for a nice windfall. Second, there are too many leprechauns around and the mischief is starting to get out of hand. Leprechauns make it no secret that they thrive on shenanigans and mayhem.

Leprechaun traps can be made in a variety of configurations and are typically baited with shiny coins. Some people like to use more humane traps allowing for the captured leprechauns to be relocated. But this strategy is often confounded by the leprechaun's magical ability to return and continue his pranks with even greater vengeful enthusiasm. The other approach is to use the leprechaun's love of libation to trick the orange-bearded fella into falling in a glass of Guinness or Jameson where he'll come to a pickled end. But when you fish out the limp imp in his tiny green suit and matching shoes, you do feel a wee bit bad. But, hey, it's not like they don't have it coming.

I've always loved Teddy Roosevelt's 1910 "Man in the Arena" speech.

It is not the critic who counts, nor the man who points how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly...who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who, at best, knows the triumph of high achievement; and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

I'm glad to read this about The Dark Knight. I'm also looking forward to Indy 4. I keep tabs on a couple of good sites on these franchises and my favorites are Batman on Film and The Raider. And as for news on the new James Bond film, The Quantum of Solace? Why that would be the site Mi6.
