Today New York and New Jersey are celebrating the 225th anniversary of "Evacuation Day" when the British fled NYC. A popular holiday through the 1800's; few New Yorkers know of it today. But reenactors will be laying wreaths at Revolutionary War-era sites and spotlights along the Hudson tonight will harken back to a 19th century tradition of using bonfires to mark the occasion.
